Spring/Fall 2009

Spring/Fall 2009 > Bulbs > Genus List > Lilium

(Please note: These are harvested late and therefore will not arrive here until October, so please do NOT include these in an early planted garden or sale) The most adored bulb group in the summer garden, it offers almost as many color variations as the tulip and is also a great cut flower. Many forms, sizes, heights, and bloom times are available. Some upfacing, downfacing and outfacing; planted in the same bed as daffodils and tulips, they extend the spring blooming season into summer; terrific garden plants as well as cut flowers; they thrive in full sun as well as in partial shade and in well-drained soil; Asiatics tend to bloom early summer and Orientals bloom later in the summer; excellent perennial bargain! (16/+cm bulbs unless otherwise noted); 2-3 per sq. ft.; 2'-3'; zones 3-10. (Hint: When using lilies as cut flowers, snip off the anthers at the end of the stamens as they may stain tablecloths and clothing.)
