a blend of pastels that are smaller than most in this group which makes it perfect for pots, containers or in the fronts of flower borders; 12"-15"; bare root.
Native to South America, these 24"-36" tall, long-lasting cut flowers have clusters of azalea- or orchid-like flowers that are often found in vases on the tables of favorite restaurants. Offered in many colors, Alstroemeria are sometimes streaked or spotted with darker tones. They bloom in mid-summer, prefer full sunlight, well-drained, humus-rich soil and in areas where the summers are extremely hot, a layer of mulch helps to ensure a uniform soil temperature which fosters longer bloom; or plant in full sun in zones 5-7; in light shade in zones 8-10. Here in our garden, they 'slept' through the first summer and became the star of the show during the second. These make great cut flowers which last up to two weeks in the vase! Top-sized tubers 2"-3"; 1 per sq. ft.; hardy in zones 7-10; even to zone 5 when deeply planted and heavily mulched.
