With blooms of bright blues, reds, violets and white, these are some of the showiest flowers of the early summer garden. The tubers have a waxy-type coating on them and they look a little like dried up prunes, so it will help the rooting process if they are SOAKED OVERNIGHT before they're planted. Also, it's sometimes difficult to tell tops from bottoms, so you'll get better results if you plant them on edge or on their sides. Plant as early as possible after the ground thaws for best results. Ours are planted in full sun, but we've seen them blooming happily in partial shade. They are terrific carpet plants for larger perennials and are often used as cut flowers. 8+ cm tubers; 10 per sq. ft.; zones 3-6 plant them in the spring; zones 7-10 plant them in the fall. 8"-10" tall.
