We've seen Agapanthus perform like crazy in California gardens. We are not sure exactly what makes them happy and bloom prolifically, but we will keep planting and trialing and will hopefully discover the secrets. If they perform well for you, we'd love to hear about your gardening situation. They seem to take at least a season to get used to their new home. We have heard they like their roots restricted to bloom well, so they will do well in a container also. A rosette of strap-like leaves surround 1"-2" long, trumpet shaped blooms clustered on top of tall stems; perfect for a full sun, well drained site.
Family: Agapanthaceae (a sister family to the Amaryllidaceae) | Nickname: African Lily | Bulbs per sq. ft: 1
