This pest-proof, summer bloomer, native to tropical Africa and
Asia, has extremely reflexed petals that reveal prominent, long ‘eyelash’ pistils and stamens. Leaves cling to arbors, trellises or strong-stemmed neighbors with the aid of curly tendrils at its leaf tips; requires full sun and well-drained soil; 1 per sq. ft.; 15/20 cm; whz 8-10, but will overwinter in whz 7 in a protected location with extra mulch and well-drained soil; blooms mid-late summer; grows up to 6'; heirloom 1902, variable.
