A very unusual, shade tolerant plant that produces a tubular, purplish green flower with dark purple markings which surround a blackish purple central spike. Following the bloom of the flowers, tropical 2’-3’, lovely green leaves emerge on 2’ purple mottled and speckled stems, providing an umbrella for its roots. Native to tropical Africa and Asia, Sauromatums normally produce their flowers in early summer and grow 2’-3’ tall leaves that last all summer long; adds interest in the garden early summer - frost; 22/24cm tubers; 3 per sq. ft.; whz 7-10.
