Commonly found in dry, rocky open woods, glades, prairies, fields, and roadsides. Unlike many of the other milkweeds, Asclepias tuberosa does not have milky-sapped stems. It is easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil in full sun. It is drought tolerant, moderately salt tolerant, and does well in poor, dry soils. Mature plants may freely self-seed in the landscape if seed pods are not removed prior to splitting open.
Family: Asclepiadaceae | Nickname: Butterfly Weed | Bulbs per sq. ft: 1
